It starts with The Medical Opinion and attached compliment slip for which I was hospitalised for 6-8 weeks. (The dates are not consistent in my Medical Notes.) On my release Dr RB John took 18 months to refer me to a NHS Psychiatrist, described as exemplary treatment for an undiagnosed illness by the NHS Complaint Service. He totally ignored my increasingly despairing pleas for answers, astoundingly saying that he was ALWAYS there for me. I was however at the time pleading with my sister, Dr KE James, his senior partner in Briton Ferry Health Centre for help which she consistently denied me by saying he, Dr RB John, meant well. I also tried to get answers from the Health Authority as they destroyed my career by incompetence. Absolutely no help there. For the next 5 years I was medicated and developed an addiction as I was unable to withdraw. Being on these drugs made it extremely difficult dealing with the financial and professional disaster that was unfolding. SO I kept asking the Counsellors etc for help in unravelling the disaster. They consistently said I was a patient that refused to "fit in" and KEPT referring back to the past AND THIS was my problem. Totally ignoring me. I was offered "one to one " counselling which never materialised. I was described consistently as an argumentative patient unwilling to accept treatment. Treatment was however ONLY more medication. ============
I saw the Mental Health Access Team in 2004/5, with a witness, where they pointed out many discrepancies in my treatment. a) Why was I referred to a Private Hospital? b) Why was I hospitalised and not put "on the sick"? c) Who paid for the stay? d) Why was I not given treatment immediately on my release? e) Why was I referred to an "out of district" Private psychiatrist and who paid for the stay in the Private Hospital? f) Why did they not address MY questions and why medication was ALWAYS the preferred option?
They listened to the description of the telephone call and the financial disaster that was caused and agreed that I desperately needed answers to allow me to close the part of my life that was dentistry. One said she was astounded at the treatment from the NHS Complaint Service.
They read this letter from the Psychiatrist in Heath House Hospital dated ONE YEAR after my discharge and were confused by the statement "in my view Mr James will not be able to return to Dentistry" as I had been removed from the Dental Register and retired on June 12th 1998. ONE WHOLE YEAR PREVIOUSLY. Both said I showed no MENTAL HEALTH COMPONENT and probably NEVER EVER had a Mental Illness as shown by a letter form another Psychiatrist, Dr S Johns dated 1997, in my Medical Notes.
================
I then saw another psychiatrist, Dr Muthakkumar who said I needed answers to enable me to move on BUT insisted I accepted medication. This was at the start of my coronary/ cardio problems and I said medication would be probably contra-indicated and that I would NOT take meds WITHOUT a diagnosis. He said I showed a mild depression BUT that he would treat me if I threatened to commit suicide. I described his attitude as atrocious from his body language, totally uncaring and unprofessional, and from his insistence on medication. ================
It was now I made a decision to NEVER to go to a Psychiatrist in Wales EVER again. I did not anticipate the abuse from Castle Surgery |
