The Orthopaedic Consultant looked at the original Radiograph and agreed that I had a rheumatic problem and recommended a cortisone injection. He said the pain WOULD increase for a day or so but then improve. I accepted his diagnosis and treatment plan. BOY was he correct with the increase of pain but within 2-3 days this totally subsided.
I returned for a follow up and saw a Dr R**. He asked me if I had pain and if I took painkillers. I said I had no pain and thus no need for painkillers. He manipulated my thumb. and he asked me if I had pain and if I took painkillers. I said I had no pain and thus no need for painkillers. He manipulated my thumb again. This repeated for 2-3 times until he manipulated my thumb suddenly and I THEN WAS IN GREAT PAIN. He then gave me a splint and told me to take painkillers and left the room.
I asked to see the original Consultant and a week or so later I complained about the treatment with Dr R, got another cortisone injection and my right thumb is now MORE painful than before the follow up visit but bearable. The ball of the palm is still swollen.
