MEDICAL OPINION COMPLIMENT SLIP

LETTER FROM HEATH HOUSE HOSPITAL dated June 1999

INDEX The problems before the flood January to June 1998 The telephone call life in hospital The problems AFTER My Retirement    My current medical debacle

I left Dr A’s surgery, in 2003,  to start the complaint and saw Dr Mair Williams. She referred me immediately to her in-practice Counsellor where I repeatedly asked why I was not allowed to know what had happened whilst I was in Hospital and why my career was destroyed so comprehensively especially after I was refused the opportunity to close it myself. And also why no diagnosis.

But I was VERY glad I now could talk to someone. She referred me to the Mental Health Day-ward at the local hospital. My medication was changed every time I attended an appointment causing some horrific side effects until I saw a Locum Psychiatrist. She said I needed answers not treatment ( at last) and gave me a name of a Mental Health Solicitor in town. (This solicitor took my documentation and then said there was a conflict of interest and after mislaying my documentation said there was nothing they would do) I was referred to a Day Ward counsellor who discussed my partial ambidexterity and the hatred of my mother at various appointments. ALL my “problems pre-hospital” were back as she made me talk about my mothers death and suggested THIS was the cause of my anger. I found this insulting considering the circumstances surrounding Mum's death. It was her non-attendance for one appointment that made me start the formal complaint and successfully, but horrifically, withdraw from the medication. I eventually saw ANOTHER Psychiatrist who told me to “pull myself together” and go back to work after retraining. He also wanted me on Lithium. My reply is unprintable but effectively stopped any further psychiatric treatment. His parting remark was "Don't sue me" Dr R Annear.

Everybody was attempting to treat the SYMPTOMS but not the CAUSE of my anger.

I saw Dr Mair Williams. late 2003 or early 2004 when I felt really, really ill with a high temperature, night sweats, bad cough and drinking over 4 litres of water a day. In front of another Doctor, she said I was a good looking man and needed to restyle my hair in an otherwise non clinical, with sexual overtones, conversation. I eventually managed to say that I was really ill and she gave me a cursory examination and said I was OK.  I saw another Doctor and she sent me for a Radiograph which was clear. I received Amoxycillin 250mg tds for 7 days. But no change so I went and saw Dr Mair Williams again where I tried to give my symptoms but she interrupted me and said” that she does not go on what a patient says but only on her examination” and I received another cursory exam of my chest. I a-likened it to playing the bongos at a later date.
I woke up early one morning with my heart beating rapidly and sweat pouring out of me, (silent heart attack??). So I rang 999 and was admitted to the Local Hospital where they discovered I had untreated Mycoplasmic Pneumonia and eventually the largest Lung Abscess in my area ( I became a clinical case for the Senior House Surgeon’s further examinations). Three weeks on a lung drain and 20 odd radiographs later the Consultant said it was too small to operate and discharged me. He said that without treatment Mycoplasmic Pneumonia can deteriorate, in 20% of cases, into a Lung Abscess as mine did.
               I asked
Dr Mair Williams for an explanation for her “non-clinical discussion” rather than treatment and received a 4 years out of date Complaints form. I asked for sight of my Medical notes and she accepted my £10 cheque, didn’t cash it OR give me what I requested. I asked the LAHB to investigate these breaches but they did not and so she joined the transfer to the Independent Review. Then she screamed at me, by telephone, calling me “only a mental patient” I gave up but I eventually received some medical notes BUT only AFTER I sent another cheque because my 1st one was over 6 months out of date.
It was in hospital that I discovered that Dr RB John was Medical Director of the Local Area Health Board. So on my discharge I wrote to the Chief Executive of Neath Port Talbot Local Health Board asking what was the relationship between Dr A and the Board. She refused to answer, by silence, despite three requests for an answer. I felt that the Board investigating their Medical Director would not result in a fair and true response but an honest answer would show their impartiality. They showed their corruption instead.
